about

In 1997, when Crooks decided to start playin’ together, punk was still able to walk on his own legs. He was strolling about searching for someone that could tell him a reason to exist.
Crooks did that with their first 7” You Make Me Feel So Sick, then with the ep Can’t Stand Your Dog and the album Speed Kills. But punk was gasping in bed in an hospital ward, with all around nostalgic vultures. And when things turned really bad, Crooks had already in their hands a record that was smelling of future – Nothing To Lose – with a sound between the pre-punk era, the glam-rock of New York Dolls and the new scandinivian speed rock. Now future is here, even more scary and hollow that how we imagined it. And Crooks don’t give a damn of taking photos of themselves blowing out the candles on their 10th birthday cake. They prefere to celebrate with a new album – High Society Rock And Roll. If you have time to waste, take a pen and start to write down the bands that you’ll find in the 13 tracks of the album: Rolling Stones, New York Dolls, Rancid, Ac/Dc, Gluecifer, Queen, Beach Boys, Undertones, Datsuns, The Who, Stooges, Kiss. When you’ll be tired of waiting, pin your ears back and get high society r’n’r: a stunning series of killer tracks will seep you away – Bye Bye Jane, Rock Girl, Get Away, Halloween – an abundance peculiar just to an high-class records. And so the artwork, that it’s all about “class”, with a bassethound picked out as the new mascotte of the band. Maybe it’s just a provocation dedicated to the punkers that don’t remember anymore their humble origin, maybe it’s all about today’s rock – that has to wear posh clothes to still attract someon’s attention. The sure thing is that Crooks is one of the most conscious and experienced punk-rock bands of Italy, with the heart in the golden years and the brain into the present. That’s way they chosen to make peace with Lady Ciccone, covering the prophetic Material Girl. And if High Society Rock And Roll will give a reason to live to just one punk-rock band, his work will be done. If you prefere funerals, look away.

THE CROOKS – HIGH SOCIETY ROCK AND ROLL (ITA)
I Crooks non si tirarono certo indietro, e lanciarono il primo sasso con il 7” You make me feel so sick, seguito dall’ep Can’t stand your dog e dall’album Speed Kills.
